Before I ever got into this sport, I recall my first exposure to polo: It was a painting at the art museum of ruler Xu Minxing’s tomb in the Shandong province and it depicted the mural of a polo player about to mount his horse and holding what seemed to be polo sticks. It was beautiful. But I was more inspired by the numerous Chinese sculptures of women playing polo. It is my belief that China had the first women polo players (5th century)
Hopefully I’ll get a chance to check out polo in China during my studies in Asia.
