Roel Hofman was born on May 14, 1956 in Roterdam, the Netherlands.
At a very young age he was facinated by drawing and painting. At the age of 16 he was apprenticed to the Rotterdam painter Cornelis Witters.
After that, he became teacher on a drawing and painter Academy in Spijkenisse. In the nineties Roel started a gallery and a company for lending art.
As from that time ART is his life. To gain inspiration, he stayed sereral times per year in country of France, in all rest, surrounded by beautifull nature, new paintings and ideas came about.
Started with drawing, his partial to painting came already rapidly. In his beginning years, he painted mostly in the traditional style. Afterwards he changed on magical realism and surrealism. Gradually he developed his own style, which is clearly recognisable.
In his vision is the use of colour in a painting, one of the most important elements. That is the first on which most of the people react instinctiveley. This element is clearly in his paintings.
“L’emotion en couleur” are his topic of this moment. With the woman al as symbol for emotion, feeling, strength and vulnerability, he tries to give expressiveness to his paintings. Which are reflections of emotions and feelings, which occupy him or fascinate him. Roel wants to touch people unconsciously with colours, pleasant associations and by the irradiation of his paintings bringing a piece of pleasure in the life of people.
Meanwhile, we see the work of Roel Hofman in national and international exhibitions, galleries and companies.
