WHAT IS THE % OF INFLUENCE OF THE STALLION IN THE BREEDING PROCESS?
IS THE QUALITY OF THE MARE MORE IMPORTANT?
WHAT IS THE FOAL% WHO ARE JUST GOING TO PLAY POLO?
WICH STALLION ? AACCP OR TB ?
Hi Rey,
Thank you for bringing that kind of questions to an open group, i think everybody who loves horses would love to know that, so please share that information with us. Thank you
The influence of genetics is a huge issue in breeding, and I hope I make sometime this week to share my points of view ... not now, regrettably
But my bullets would be something like ...
1. (not in the breeding process, but in the genetic load passed on to the foal): 50% .. so stallion and mare could be of even influence on the foal to be born. Necertheless, it is widely believed that mares will pass on their abilities to play polo.
BUT the thing is ... one stallion will serve tens of mares in a single season, multypying this 50% by all the foals to be born. So he is a major issue in herd-terms for breeders
2. Probably, in polo terms and - as mentioned before - on a single foal
3. ha .. I'd like o hear more about this one: somewhere around 50% of all weaned foals in our case
4. We don't know yet ... not enough cases to have solid proof
In my point of view, the stallion is more important than the mare, like in the TB, they allways take care on the stallion and put him wth any mare. If you have a good stallion blood line, you will allways have excellent type of ponies and from that bloodline and nowbody will ask about the mare. In polo is important to me if the mare use to play polo or not. If she was polo ponie and the stallion is good is all done, the babe musk play polo.
Every horse can play polo, in different ways, that s the difference between the prices. Some of them are fasters, some are slower, some are to tall, others small, some have more power, others are too thin, but all of them will play polo and if you have luck you will have a crack, what is the most difficult. A crack is that horse who can be for the argentine open, for cambiaso or facu. They are allways looking for the cracks and they are having their own breed, but the cracks are something else. If all of their horses, with that amazing breed, could play palermo, facu will only play in horses who are called ellerstina something and cambiaso will play only in horses called dolfina something and mariano aguerre in machitos something only.
I have lot of mares who are mix blood, i can´t know from where they come, and I have two stallions TB, one tall and thin with the Candy Stripes´s blood (same like novillo´s boodline) and other short, compact and stronge from the abolengo stud farm, boots are TB and they are giving me very good horses, if I put a AACCP stallion in this type of mares maybe I´ll get the blood too mixy, because the AACCP is also a type of blood mixed. I prefer the TB stallions in my personal case.
Hope to be clear and help someone
Hi, I can only speak about my own experience; I think a polo stallion should have played himself. It is simply not good enough to have a good breeding-background.
Once you know he is a good playing pony, you can start using him in the polo breeding.
My stallion, Dandy Constancio, son of racing stallion Dandy Beam, played well. Good mouth, good character, not too big, not to havy, a nice polo-type. This way about 40% of the off-spring, being male, end up playing aswell!
I bought 2 sisters at the same time, in Argentina. They both played the Open; one of them for at least 12 years.
My foals are from excellent high-goal mares, but you will always also recognize typical things from the stallion and his family.
So just using a stallion with good bloodlines, is not good enough. Use only the best quality and you will have great off-spring. 95% from Constancio's off-spring plays polo. Dandy Constantio is a AACCP stallion under Gonzalo Pieres' name
I have used him for breeding during 14 years. He is not too dominant in breeding, so with excellent mares, he mostly passes his best influences like good mouth and good character. He is now 19 yrs old and still looks very nice!
with best regards, Dorothee
Hi, I agree absolutly whith Dorothee(Hi,long time)the stallion is important for all you said and because give a few foals every year and the mare give one.The stallion inprint the type of horses you breed.About the mares: they are very, very inportant and in my experiencie they are been more inportant.
